Raising Awareness of Energy Management Systems and System Optimization

On 18 December 2025, the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition, and Industry Promotion (IGIP) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) organized the workshop “Raising Awareness of Energy Management Systems and System Optimization” in Phu Tho Province.

The workshop aimed to enhance awareness of energy management systems and system optimization among industrial enterprises, while introducing the training and technical assistance programme under the Project “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (IEEP Project). The IEEP Project is funded by the European Union, with MOIT serving as the lead agency and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as the implementing partner.

The workshop welcomed representatives from the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition, and Industry Promotion (IGIP), leaders from the Department of Industry and Trade, the Industrial Promotion and Trade Development Center, and relevant business associations in Phu Tho and Thai Nguyen, together with more than 70 representatives from industrial enterprises in sectors including steel, textiles and garments, rubber, cement, food processing, beverages, fisheries, paper, and plastics. Participants joined from Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Dong Nai, Yen Bai, Bac Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Gia Lai, Nghe An, and Tay Ninh (both in-person and online).

Mr. Hoang Viet Dung – Deputy Head of the Division of Energy Efficiency and Green Transition, Agency for Innovation, Green Transition, and Industry Promotion (MOIT), delivered the opening remarks.

In his opening speech, Mr. Hoang Viet Dung noted: “Viet Nam is facing an increasing risk of energy shortages. Forecasts indicate that in the future, primary energy sources will not be able to meet the economy’s energy demand. Therefore, implementing energy efficiency and energy conservation measures is a vital solution to reduce pressure on energy demand and to ensure national energy security. Today’s workshop is an important activity within this overall strategy.”

Mr. Bui Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of the Phu Tho Department of Industry and Trade, delivered welcoming remarks at the workshop.

The workshop provided important and practical information on the latest regulations related to energy efficiency and energy management in industrial enterprises, as well as the challenges and opportunities in developing and implementing an ISO 50001-compliant Energy Management System. It also explored approaches to optimize energy-using systems and maximize energy savings. Participants also heard from Nasteelvina Co., Ltd., which shared its experience in successfully applying an energy management system, alongside information on the support activities offered to industrial enterprises through the IEEP Project during the process of researching, developing, and implementing energy-saving solutions.

More than 70 enterprise representatives from sectors including steel, textiles and garments, rubber, cement, food processing, beverages, fisheries, paper, and plastics took part in the workshop (both in-person and online).

In January 2026, the Project will continue to deliver further training courses for industrial enterprises on developing and implementing energy management systems in Da Nang, and a specialist training programme on pump system optimization in Ha Noi and Hai Phong, contributing to the Project’s commitment to supporting the accelerated adoption of solutions that enhance energy performance in industrial enterprises.
