On the morning of July 10, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), officially launched the international training course on “Pump System Optimization.”
This training is part of Component 2 of the project titled “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (referred to as the IEEP Project), under the framework of the EU-Vietnam Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP), funded by the European Union, with the MOIT as the project owner and UNIDO as the implementing partner.
Attending the training were Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lâm Giang, Director General of the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition, and Industrial Promotion under the MOIT; along with international trainers and trainees including technical experts from energy service companies, provincial industrial promotion centers and industrial development consulting agencies, technology universities, and representatives from industrial enterprises.

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lâm Giang delivering remarks at the training
In her opening remarks, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lâm Giang emphasized the importance of optimizing energy-using systems in industrial enterprises. According to her, optimizing operational efficiency and system design plays a crucial role in helping businesses reduce energy costs, enhance competitiveness, indirectly ensure national energy security, and contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
Ms. Giang also introduced support programs for enterprises under the National Energy Efficiency Program (VNEEP). These programs are designed to encourage enterprises and communities to widely adopt energy-efficiency and energy management solutions.

Mr. Harry Rosen – UNIDO international expert – shares experiences during the training
At the training, under the guidance of Mr. Harry Rosen, a seasoned international expert and trainer from UNIDO, participants were introduced to and practiced the four steps of system optimization:
- Organizing a pump system assessment
- Conducting the assessment
- Analyzing the data
- Developing an optimization report
The training content was highly appreciated by participants for its practical relevance, including topics such as measuring system performance and operational data, establishing baselines, identifying and analyzing improvement opportunities, and preparing optimization reports for pump systems in factories.

The two-day training course on “Pump System Optimization” attracted the participation of 45 staff from industrial enterprises representing project-targeted sectors such as pulp and paper, food processing, rubber processing, beverages, textiles, chemicals and fertilizers, plastics, metallurgy, and steel, along with 20 energy efficiency consultants.
