EU Partners with Viet Nam to Lead the Region in Green Economy

The EU Ambassador to Viet Nam affirmed, “The green economy is the economy of the future. The EU is leading the world in the green economy, and we are ready to cooperate so that Viet Nam can play a leading role in the region’s green transformation.”

On November 6 in Hanoi, the European Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (EuroCham) held a press conference to announce the upcoming Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2025.

From Climate Challenges to Sustainable Growth Opportunities

Speaking at the event, Mr. Bruno Jaspaert highlighted that the urgency of green transition has never been greater. Viet Nam is already experiencing the impacts of climate change—from severe flooding in the capital to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns nationwide. These phenomena threaten livelihoods and communities. Yet, amid these challenges lies an opportunity: to pursue sustainable growth through resilience, innovation, and sustainability.

Across continents, governments are racing to balance energy security with decarbonization, modernize infrastructure, protect ecosystems, and ensure shared prosperity for both people and the planet. Europe leads this global effort through transformative frameworks such as the European Green Deal, Global Gateway Initiative, Net-Zero Industry Act, and Circular Economy Act—all designed to strengthen industrial competitiveness in a changing climate.

This shared vision resonates strongly in Viet Nam. As one of Asia’s most dynamic emerging economies and a nation firmly committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Viet Nam is modernizing its energy system, reforming the electricity market, and expanding renewable capacity—seeking to balance affordability with long-term competitiveness.

Sustainable Investment for Future Generations

EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert stated, “I may not represent the largest investment bloc in Viet Nam, but I represent one with purpose. European investment focuses on sectors that drive sustainable development—those that matter not only for today’s growth but also for the generations to come.”

Frameworks such as the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) continue to align the economic and environmental goals of the EU and Viet Nam.

EU Ambassador to Viet Nam Julien Guerrier shared that at the Global Gateway Forum 2025 held in Brussels last month, the JETP further concretized the EU’s financial commitments to energy transition projects—marked by the signing of a €430 million financing package between Deputy Prime Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn and EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela.

He emphasized, “In an increasingly volatile world, partnerships like that between the EU and Viet Nam are of exceptional importance. I am confident that in the years to come, our cooperation will continue to deepen, bringing tangible benefits to businesses and citizens alike. The green economy is the economy of the future. The EU is leading globally in this field, and we are ready to work with Viet Nam to help it take the lead in the region’s green economy.”

The European Spirit Fuels Viet Nam’s “Green Ambition”

Over the past 35 years, Europe and Viet Nam have evolved from aid to alliance, from dialogue to joint action. Today, both sides are co-creating sustainable and stable growth in an increasingly complex world.

On the occasion of GEF 2025, EuroCham calls on policymakers, innovators, and businesses to join hands in shaping a future where Viet Nam not only grows faster but also greener and smarter—setting a benchmark for sustainable development across Asia.

Focusing on in-depth discussions and practical dialogues, GEF 2025 will feature nine thematic conference sessions on Viet Nam’s sustainable development priorities, three hands-on workshops co-organized by European bilateral business associations, a keynote address by a global thought leader on the green economy, and a networking gala fostering long-term partnerships. Each session will connect the vision of the EU Green Deal and Global Gateway Initiative with Viet Nam’s realities—translating strategies into solutions that link policy with investment and ambition with implementation.

Providing more insight into the forum, Mr. Nguyễn Phan Đính, Co-Chair of EuroCham’s Green Growth Sector Committee, emphasized, “GEF 2025 is not just about frameworks—it’s about how sustainability can be lived and applied every day. Whether it’s cleaner transport, more efficient housing, or smarter manufacturing, every discussion here directly relates to how people and businesses operate.”

From clean energy to green skills, the nine sessions of this year’s forum will bring sustainability to life—bridging global trends with concrete actions that businesses and communities can take today.

“At EuroCham, we view Viet Nam’s transformation not only as an economic story but as a shared mission. GEF 2025 will be a space for solutions—where ideas become partnerships and ambitions turn into actions,” affirmed EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert.
