On the morning of September 10, 2025, in Tay Ninh, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), organized a training course titled “Establishing and Operating an Energy Management System According to ISO 50001 Standards.”
This is one of the regular key activities of the project “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (IEEP Project), under the management of MOIT, implemented by UNIDO, and funded by the European Union.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Nga, Technical Advisor of the IEEP project, on behalf of the organizing committee, welcomed the participants from various industrial enterprises and emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in the context of global challenges. She noted that this program is not merely a knowledge-training activity but also a strategic step contributing to the green transition and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises regionally and globally, as international integration increasingly demands corporate social responsibility and environmental protection. Therefore, establishing an energy management system according to international standards such as ISO 50001 provides enterprises with a foundation to not only save energy and reduce operating costs but also improve their corporate image, foster innovation, and promote sustainable development.

The two-day training course attracted over 60 managers and technical staff from large industrial enterprises, representing target sectors of the project, including rubber processing, chemicals and fertilizers, metallurgy and steel, plastics, textiles, food processing, and seafood processing. Participants came from Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Kien Giang, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, and Quang Tri. The training content was developed based on UNIDO’s Training Development Framework and covered topics such as energy system overview, energy planning and policies, energy data collection and analysis, and implementation planning. The instructors included three leading experts in ISO management systems from the Vietnam Certification Center (QUACERT), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, ensuring the highest quality of training for participants.

After completing the course, participants are able to:
- Understand the energy management system: Grasp the components of a system according to ISO 50001 standards and clearly recognize the benefits it brings.
- Report and make proposals: Present the benefits of implementing the system to enterprise leadership and interact effectively in development planning.
- Implement and continuously improve: Acquire the necessary knowledge to start building and implementing an energy management system or to make process improvements.

The Project has continuously conducted similar training courses across provinces nationwide, and the next course on motor system optimization will be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City at the end of September 2025.
