Enhancing enterprise capacity in energy management systems and energy efficiency

From May 15 to 20, 2025, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), conducted training programs focused on improving energy management and efficiency. These programs included “Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of EnMS – ISO 50003” and “Measurement and Verification of Organizational Energy Performance – ISO 50015.”

These training courses are part of the EU-funded project “Accelerating Energy Efficiency in Large Industries through Energy Management Systems, System Optimization, and the Promotion and Adoption of Energy Efficiency in SMEs” (IEEP). This project is implemented under the broader Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP).

The training “Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of EnMS – ISO 50003” took place in Ha Noi. It attracted experts from organizations that assess and certify energy systems in both Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The two-day course covered essential topics such as the ISO 50003 standard requirements, its connections to other international standards like ISO 50001 and ISO 17021, the audit process, energy data analysis, and the practical skills necessary to ensure objective, accurate, and reliable audit results.

The training “Measurement and Verification of Organizational Energy Performance – ISO 50015” was held in Ho Chi Minh City, drawing 35 participants. These individuals came from industrial promotion centers, universities, colleges, and energy and energy-saving consulting firms located in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Thap, Can Tho, and Da Nang.

Experienced UNIDO experts shared their knowledge on the general principles and guidelines for measuring and verifying organizational energy performance according to the international standard ISO 50015. Participants also engaged in practical exercises and case studies, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real-world situations. This hands-on approach helps to enhance the capacity for inspecting and verifying energy efficiency within Vietnamese businesses and organizations.

This initiative represents a significant step in the joint efforts of the MOIT, UNIDO, and the EU to promote sustainable energy development in Viet Nam. Its goal is to enhance capabilities and standardize the certification of energy management systems across various enterprises.
